由於「蘇格蘭民族黨」（SNP）在這次英國大選中大有斬獲，有關蘇格蘭將趁勢舉行另一次獨立公投之說，甚囂塵上。但英國首相卡麥隆10日明確否認了此一揣測，排除再次舉行蘇獨公投，強調去年秋天的公投中，蘇格蘭人民已「斷然」拒絕脫離聯合王國。
另一方面，卡麥隆透露，他已就英國和歐盟的未來關係，與布魯塞爾方面展開磋商。卡麥隆選前保證，若雙方未能取得共識，英國將在2017年底前舉行脫離歐盟公投。
這次英國大選中，SNP在蘇格蘭選區奪得59個國會席位中的56席，令蘇格蘭獨派大為振奮，成功當選為英國國會議員的SNP前黨魁薩蒙德表示，這項勝利是蘇格蘭邁向獨立的「中途補給站」。而在2016年的蘇格蘭議會選舉中，推動第二次蘇獨公投勢必會成為焦點議題。
然而，目前忙於組政的卡麥隆，否認蘇格蘭再舉行獨立公投的可能。卡麥隆表示，他對維持大英聯合王國統一，「非常有信心」。他指出，2014年9月公投結果，55％反對蘇獨，相較於45％支持蘇獨，已清楚說明蘇格蘭人的立場。
卡麥隆說，不會有第二次蘇獨公投，但將儘速落實擴大對蘇格蘭的權力下放。
SNP黨魁、蘇格蘭第一部長斯特金也堅稱，SNP在大選中的成功，不會改變SNP選前保證不會於大選後舉行蘇獨公投的承諾。斯特金說，她在競選中保證這次大選無關蘇獨，「我不斷、前後一貫、明確的闡明此一立場」。
斯特金表示，她深信蘇格蘭有一天終會獨立，認為薩蒙德稱蘇格蘭邁向獨立的腳步更為接近，指的也是這個意思，否認自己與薩蒙德意見相左。史特金重申，自己是SNP的領袖，掌控SNP。
斯特金堅持，是否保證把第二次蘇獨公投放進2016年蘇格蘭議會選舉SNP的競選政綱中，尚待決定。
